We all get ourselves into a bit of a rut from time to time, so I'm here to share with you my five simple things that make me feel like I'm winning at life. You're welcome.
1. A clean house and fresh bedding.
Nothing puts a spring in my step quite like having my house squeaky clean and smelling of citrus. My place is usually very tidy, but when I clean, I get a bit carried away; Thoroughly vacuuming of my couch, wiping the skirting boards and vigorously scrubbing the grout between my bathroom tiles. Too much? Top that all off with fresh threads in the boudoir. I’m talking clean sheets. Heaven.
2. A full tank of fuel and a tidy whip.
I find myself having the same lazy attitude EVERY TIME the needle on my car’s fuel gauge creeps closer to empty: “Should be enough to get me home. I’ll just leave a little earlier tomorrow morning and fill her up on the way to work.” Do I remember the following morning?
Of course not.
I’ll sleep through five alarms, madly rush through my morning routine (or half of it), slide into my car, turn it on, watch my dashboard light up... Uh-oh. Fuel Light.
I can't tell you how nice it feels to fire up the car on a busy morning and to see that needle resting on 'F' rather than on 'E'.
Level up by coupling your full tank with a little vacuum, wash and declutter of your car and you'll feel like you've got it all together. At least until she runs empty again... or let your messy friend borrow your car. Broom-Broom.
3. SLAYING your finances.
Perhaps you just paid the final installment on a credit card or personal loan, or survived one of those months where all of your bills seem to have come at once.
Maybe you finally got around to paying that parking fine, or paying back that friend who shouted you those festival tickets. Debt can be so anxiety-inducing, so it can feel SO guddd to get your sh*t PAID and just get it off your mind.
4. Embarking on that minimalist life you’ve been fantasising about.
Tidying up. Difficult for some, easy for others (Marie Kondo, eat your heart out).
Now, I could write a whole article on this (SPOILER: I already have. You can find a more detailed list of my minimalism tips here).
Basically, you should donate or dispose of ALL of your unworn clothes, unused stationery, unnecessary decor items and random trinkets. ANYTHING that does not serve a purpose or that you do not use should absolutely be gone from your life (except for plants, we most certainly do NOT abandon our leafy children).
Oh - and for the love of God, decluttering your home does NOT mean that you now have room for that ‘Occasional Chair’ from Kmart.
5. The BIG tick
I’m a list girl. Goal-oriented (or so I tell myself).
Just quietly, I love the idea of writing down an objective and making it my b*tch.
Maybe you’re working to achieve a long-term goal like finishing a university degree or purchasing a property, or perhaps you’re stoked to have booked flights for that holiday you’ve been saving up for... maybe you’ve just made it to the gym four times this week, like you said you would.
Nothing feels better than putting a big fat tick next to an item on your list (or crossing it off, if you’re that way inclined).
What are the things that make you feel like you’ve got your sh*t together?
